Ukraine may export additional 800 thousand tons of wheat

Given the good condition of winter crops in the current marketing year Ukraine may export 500-800 thousand tons of wheat more. This said the President of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko at a conference "Black Sea Grain: Export Forever», reports.


The expert recalled that last year between traders and the government was signed a memorandum on maintenance of a consistent balance of wheat until the moment when it will be clear whether winter crops survive. "The agreement was withstood" - said Leonid Kozachenko.


"The government did not introduce a formal limit on exports, and this is a big plus. Now we know that winter crops survived quite successfully. Over the last 50 years there was no such case that we have only 275 hectares of winter crops was doubtful and does not require replanting, just reseeding, "- said the president of the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation Leonid Kozachenko.


According to him, there are no concerns about the shortage of wheat.




Ministry of Infrastructure together with trade unions discussed the next stage of restructuring of maritime transport state enterprises

Discussion of the next stage of the reorganization of state-owned enterprises of the maritime transport with the trade union organizations was held on 17 April 2013 in the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine. Urgent issues in relation to expected structural changes that interest each port workers were also discussed at the meeting.

The initiator of the meeting were labor groups involved in the process of constructive dialogue between labor groups, management of ports, employers and the Ministry.

Opening the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Dmitry Demidovich once again stressed the importance of constant constructive dialogue and cooperation with the trade unions to achieve success in their reforms.

Ukraine supplied record amount of rice to foreign markets

According to the customs statistics of Ukraine, the country exported 6.6 thousand tons of rice in March, which is a record for the month, and only 15% less than the absolute monthly record exports, recorded in December 2012. In February rice exports amounted to only 1.2 thousand tons, and in March 2012 - 7160 tons.

It should be noted that 5.7 million tons of this volume falls on raw rice.

The main buyer of the product is Libya, having bought 86% of the total amount in March.

In total this season in August-March more than 28.1 thousand tons of rice was delivered on foreign markets compared to 14.6 thousand tons in whole 2011/12 MY.


Passenger transportations in Ukraine decreased by 0.8%

 During January-March 2013, 1.6 billion passengers used transport services, which totals 99.2% of the volumes in January-March 2012. This reported the State Statistics Service, UGMK.INFO writes.

Railway passenger transportations (including suburban electric trains) increased by 0.2% compared to the same period last year, while passengers carriages by suburban trains grew by 11.1%.

0.8 billion passengers used the services of road transport, which is 0.4% less than the volume of passenger traffic in the first three months of 2012. Transportations of individual entrepreneurs by road transport decreased by 5.7%.
Transportation of passengers by sea increased by 7.7% compared to the similar volumes in March 2012.


Countries of the Black Sea region increased their share on the world export grain market threefold over the past 20 years

The share of the Black Sea region (Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine) on the global grain export market has tripled - from 5.6 to 15.3%. This is announced in the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).


Similar changes in market structure have also occurred in the global markets of wheat, barley and maize individually. According to experts, above all, significant increase was detected in the total share of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine on the wheat market - from 7.9% in 1990/91 marketing year (MY) to 17.7% in 2012/13 MY, i.e. more than 2 times. A season before, in 2011/12 MY the total share reached 24.7%, i.e. increased more than three times compared to the 1990/91 MY.


On the world markets of barley and maize the share of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine increased respectively from 11.9 to 21.9% and from 1.3 to 17.4%, i.e. almost 2 times on the world market of barley and more than 13 times on the corn market.


The government approved an action plan to strengthen cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in energy sector for 2013

On purpose of implementation of Presidential Decree №127 "On the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on 12 March 2013 "On urgent measures for the European integration of Ukraine" by the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine with the participation of involved organizations was developed a plan to revitalize Cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union in the energy sector in 2013, which was adopted at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 15 April 2013.


 The plan takes into account the main provisions of the Seventh Joint EU-Ukraine report on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and the European Union on cooperation in the energy sector, as well as the Report of the results of the meeting between the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavisky with the EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger on February 21, 2013.


 It should be emphasized that the Action Plan provides for enhanced cooperation between Ukraine and the EU in key areas of energy sector.


Cruise operator PAC Group entered the Ukrainian market

Cruise tour operator PAC Group, which is among the ten largest ones in Russia, begins to work in Ukraine. On March 26 the company opened its office in Kiev. The staff will consist of 10 employees and the company intends to sell products through the agent network, the Forbes informs.


PAC Group intends to compete on the market by providing comprehensive Russian-speaking service from embarkation to excursions. Other operators provide such services only in the peak dates - New Year and May Day celebrations.


Also in 2012, the company received the status of general sales representative in Russia and some other CIS countries of one of the world's leading cruise line MSC Cruises, which has increased the number and range of offerings.


"Capacity of Ukrainian cruise market in the past five years has increased by five times", - said Larissa Slobodyan, the Director of tour operator "Express-Voyage", the representative of international company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. According to her, about 12 thousand of 1.3 million organized tourists choose cruises. And if the average price of the cruise is estimated by market participants at the level of 1200-1500 US dollars per person, so the market in monetary terms corresponds to the level of 15-18 million US dollars a year.


The main reason for increase in demand is destruction of stereotypes. Ukrainians are no longer considered cruises a luxury type of travel.


Steelmakers increased iron ore import by 45% in I quarter

Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises increased imports of iron ore by 45% up to 761 thousand tons in January-March 2013 compared to the same period last year.


In March 2013 steelmakers imported 262 thousand tons of iron ore, which is 9.2% more than in the previous month.


Adjusted balance timetable of provision Ukrainian steelmakers with iron ore in January-March, was executed by: pellets - 90%, agglomerate - by 98%, sinter ore - by 98% concentrate - by 102%.


Exports of domestic iron ore for 3 months increased compared to the same period last year by 16% up to 9,395 million tons, and in March amounted to 3,328 million tons (+12.2% compared to February).


Grain harvest in Ukraine could be increased by 20 million tons with restoration of irrigation systems - N.Prisyazhnyuk

Restoring the irrigation systems Ukrainian farmers will be able to increase the gross harvest by 20 million tons. This was announced on April 11 by the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Nykolay Prisyazhniuk, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy reports.


"Irrigation is a strategic goal for our state. After all, we are in the zone of risky agriculture. Therefore, the President of Ukraine drew attention and instructed the Cabinet to proceed with the recovery program of irrigation. So, now there is the decision of the government to return the inter-farm networks, which was approved by local authority. At the same time, we are preparing economic and technical feasibility of national irrigation system",- said the Minister.


He also noted that the overall plan to restore irrigation on the territory of about 3.5 million hectares of land in the next 4-5 years. And the means to do so is expected to accumulate at the expense of statec financial support and investments. As a result, farmers will receive energy-saving irrigation technologies that meet the characteristics of the regions.


Ukrainian sea ports handled 25.4 million tons of cargoes in I quarter 2013

According to on-line data, in January-March 2013 state sea commercial ports handled 25 441.4 thousand tons of cargoes, including: transit - 7109.8 thousand tons, export - 15,545.8 tons and import - 2428 9 tons, the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure informs.


In general, by the results of work of the enterprises of maritime and river transport, within the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Infrastructure, in I quarter total income amounted to 1.9 billion UAH (income of sea ports totaled 1.5 billion UAH). Thus, net profit of the enterprises of maritime and river transport totaled 419.8 million UAH (respectively, net profit of sea ports totaled 360.9 mln. UAH).


In January-March the enterprises of the sector transferred 454.8 million UAH to the state budget (seaports - 357.6 million UAH).


The average monthly wage per employee, compared to the same period last year, increased by 8.3% and amounted to 5.1 thousand UAH.


Association of Agricultural Carriers is created in Ukraine

In Ukraine was created the Association of Agricultural Carriers, the tasks of which are: organization of effective logistics of agricultural products in the domestic and international markets and the regulation of relations between the carriers and protection of their interests before the state. This was announced by the president of the Association Yanina Kucherova on April 9 during a press conference.


To date, the organization has about 70 members, mostly small and medium-sized haulers, as well as a large operator "GPZKU-MTS".


Kucherova noted that in Ukraine the shortage of trucks for the farmers during the sowing and harvesting campaigns is about 1-1.5 thousand ones. However, she expressed the hope that in the current year through coordinated actions of haulers the deficit will be minimized to reduce the shortage of vehicles and the cost of transportations of goods by at least 2%.
